Stéphane Gombauld set to return to SLUC Nancy, two years after departure

Stéphane Gombauld (6’9″, 28 years old), Pro B MVP in 2022 with SLUC Nancy, is very close to rejoining the Lorraine club. After leaving abroad following a strong season in Betclic ELITE, the Guadeloupean big man is set to return to a familiar environment where he previously excelled (2021/23).
Stéphane Gombauld soon back in Lorraine
Two years after leaving Nancy, Stéphane Gombauld is close to returning to SLUC. The Guadeloupean center, who came through INSEP, had carried the Lorraine club in 2021-2022, ending the season with the Pro B MVP title and promotion to Betclic ELITE. The following season, he confirmed his abilities at the higher level averaging 13.6 points, before heading to Italy.
In 2023-2024, he played for Dinamo Sassari, with a solid season in Serie A (10.5 points on 68.3% shooting and 5.3 rebounds in less than 20 minutes over 39 games). This earned him a move to Pallacanestro Reggiana. This 2024-2025 season, he was averaging 6.9 points and 4.5 rebounds in the Italian league, and 7 points and 5.4 rebounds in the Champions League (BCL).
A symbolic and strategic return for Nancy
With Enzo Goudou-Sinha‘s return already confirmed, SLUC Nancy continues its summer of reunions. Recruiting Gombauld means bringing back an emblematic player from their promotion season, who knows both the club and the league well.
« Stéphane is an athletic player, good in pick and roll and very effective in transition, » his coach at Reggio Emilia, Dimitrios Priftis, emphasized when he joined the Italian club.

This return would also allow Gombauld to revitalize his career in a familiar context after two seasons abroad. For Nancy, it would be a measured bet on a player who has already proven his worth in France, especially with SLUC.
A career of back-and-forth moves, but constant progress
A leader of French youth national teams from the 1997 generation, Stéphane Gombauld was long seen as a great prospect in French basketball. While he didn’t immediately establish himself in the first division, his career has been marked by constant progress, from Lille to Blois, from Serbia to Pro B, before becoming league MVP and moving to Italy.
Today, he’s an experienced player with European experience who could once again settle in Gentilly. A valuable asset for a club looking to reach new heights in Betclic ÉLITE.
