Roman Domon explains his move to NCAA: « It’s an experience worth having »

For his last home game with BCM this Saturday against Chalon, Roman Domon (2.07m, 19 years old) will certainly feel emotional. Developed at Gravelines-Dunkerque, where he made his first steps with the French youth teams and signed his first professional contract, the forward will continue his development across the Atlantic next season.

« Playing time was what mattered most to me »

Since February, the North native has been in advanced discussions with an American university. While nothing is signed yet, the number one option appears to be Murray State in Kentucky. But more than the financial considerations, which are very attractive, it’s playing time that guided his choice.

« Many talk about money. Sure, we know it pays much more in the United States than in France for a young player, » he explains in La Voix du Nord. « But my criteria, even if it meant earning a bit less, was mainly about playing. The goal is to play at the highest possible level. »

U18 French Champion with BCM in 2023, becoming a key player in the Espoirs team then turning professional, Roman Domon knows where he comes from and wants to respect the club that developed him. « Gravelines got me into the French youth teams, signed me to a pro contract. They launched me, I owe them a lot. I loved being here. This will be a new chapter. »

« I’m going there to dominate »

With the NBA or EuroLeague in his sights, Roman Domon knows the American challenge will be tough. But his determination is unwavering. « I’m going there to play, to dominate. We can’t deny that the amounts are incredible. Many go for the money. There’s also enormous visibility, it’s an experience worth having. But beyond the experience, it’s about succeeding. »

As Evan Boisdur (1.82m, 19 years old), another young talent developed at Gravelines, will also head to the United States, Roman Domon hopes to make this adventure a springboard to the highest level.
