The Phoenix Suns made a strong move in the second round of the NBA Draft 2025 by selecting Rasheer Fleming with the 31st pick. The power forward from St. Joseph’s University, who was on several franchises’ radar, finally landed in Arizona after a series of trades orchestrated by the Suns’ front office.
To secure Fleming, Phoenix had to negotiate with the Minnesota Timberwolves, trading their 36th pick and two future second-round picks for the 31st pick. This move was necessary to get ahead of the Boston Celtics, who were also targeting the player at 32nd according to ESPN.
Fleming, who averaged 14.7 points on 53.1% shooting, 8.5 rebounds, 1.5 blocks, and 1.4 steals in 31 minutes this season, impressed at the NBA combine with an exceptional wingspan of 7’5″ at 6’8″ and 231 pounds. « Everything happened so fast, it was an amazing experience. It’s a crazy feeling. No, not just crazy: absolutely insane, » reacted the Suns’ new rookie.
Suns GM Brian Gregory couldn’t hide his enthusiasm about the pick. « His athletic measurements are clearly off the charts. When you look at the foundation laid with some of our recent moves, you start to see a pattern of players with real character who truly love the game, » he stated.
The executive particularly highlighted Fleming’s defensive qualities: « He shot very well from 3-point range, he gets deflections, he blocks shots: all these things that show how active he is on defense. » With 39% accuracy from 3-point range on 62 attempts this season, the power forward also brings an interesting offensive dimension.

Fleming, who models his game after Jaden McDaniels, arrives in Arizona with great confidence: « No matter if something goes wrong, if I’m not making my shots or whatever, which I doubt, you can be sure of one thing: I’m going to bring a lot of energy. I’m going to keep playing hard, no matter what. »
This selection is part of a larger transformation of the Suns’ roster, who had already chosen Khaman Maluach at 10th and acquired Mark Williams via trade, reshaping their frontcourt for the 2025-2026 season.
