Named after French artist Henri Matisse, Matisse Thybulle has carved out his own masterpiece on NBA courts: a surgically precise defense that fascinates and frustrates opponents in equal measure. Yet nothing seemed to predestine this young man, born in Arizona, to become one of the most feared defenders in the league.

His basketball journey began late and with great difficulty. Through middle school, Thybulle struggled to even make layups consistently.
