Player Profile

On February 26, 2023, his 23rd birthday, Craig Porter Jr. wrote his name into college basketball history with a perfect triple-double: 15 points, 10 rebounds, 10 assists. A birthday gift the Wichita State point guard gave himself, symbolizing a journey defined by perseverance.

Originally from Terre Haute, Indiana, Porter Jr. built his reputation on his ability to bounce back from adversity. After starring at Terre Haute South Vigo High School and leading his team to the state quarterfinals, he began his college career at Vincennes University. There, he contributed to an outstanding record of 62 wins and 7 losses, claiming the NJCAA national title in 2019.

His transfer to Wichita State revealed an exceptional determination. Despite entering the transfer portal twice, Porter Jr. chose to return to the Shockers each time, drawn in part by NIL opportunities. That loyalty paid off: his performances improved steadily, year after year.

Standing between 6'1" and 6'2" and weighing around 176 pounds, this versatile player is equally comfortable at point guard and shooting guard. After declaring for the 2023 NBA Draft without being selected, he signed a two-way contract with the Cleveland Cavaliers on July 7, 2023. Six months later, in February 2024, his efforts were rewarded with a conversion to a standard NBA contract.

Splitting time between the Cavaliers and their G League affiliate, the Cleveland Charge, Porter Jr. continues his development with the same resilience that has always defined him.
