Olympiakos ends Paris Basketballs winning streak at Adidas Arena
Everyone expected a high-flying offensive showcase, and that’s exactly what they got. Between the best attack in Europe and an incredible offensive team (according to post-game interviews), the total score was always going to flirt with 200 points. But in this offensive battle, it was Olympiakos who emerged victorious at the Adidas Arena, winning 87-104.
The defeat ended Paris Basketball‘s three-game EuroLeague winning streak, as they returned home after six consecutive away games across all competitions. The players had narrowly escaped a trap in Limoges during the weekend’s domestic league action. For their first home game in a month, Adidas Arena spectators certainly got their money’s worth.
Record-breaking first half performance
Even though victory wasn’t achieved, there was plenty of spectacle. Particularly in the first period, with a 3-points record for the visiting Greeks (13/19). The pace of play is crazy. I think it’s not sustainable, it’s not how we want to play. We score more than 60 points but we concede 55, analyzed Alec Peters (18 points) at halftime on EuroLeague TV, who scored Olympiakos’ first 17 points alongside Tyler Dorsey (24 points) at the start of the match.

The two former NBA players were heavily involved given the absences of Sasha Vezenkov and Thomas Walkup. Just like Evan Fournier, who always takes particular pleasure in performing against French teams (17 points tonight, 18 in the away game in Greece, 21 against ASVEL in December). Many individual weapons that ultimately hurt the Parisian defense. It was their highest points conceded since December.
Despite their absentees, Olympiakos managed to produce a high-level performance that satisfied everyone in post-game interviews. They led throughout the encounter but never relaxed. Against a team like that, you can never relax. They play so fast that even with a 20-point lead, it’s not over, Tyler Dorsey affirmed after the game.
Paris shows fight despite the loss
The Parisians still managed an excellent ratio of 22 assists for 11 turnovers, and very good shooting percentages (60% on 2-points, 36% on 3-points, 79% on free throws). All starters finished with positive plus/minus ratings, while Nadir Hifi – who fooled everyone by pretending he had cut his hair – finished with the worst (-24) despite his 15 points and 4 assists.
This defeat halts their comeback. Paris remains 16th with 11 wins for 19 defeats, far from the play-in battle. On a more pleasant note, Adidas Arena spectators were able to celebrate their former player Tyson Ward, who received his French championship ring at center court before the game.
Olympiakos played great basketball, they played very well. Offensively first, since they’re surely the best attack in Europe. It wasn’t easy. We fought well, but it’s not what we want, we want to win games. We could have done better in the first period, by forcing them into more difficult shots. And in the second period, we lacked consistency in shooting. With a few more successful baskets, we could have put pressure on them, but it didn’t happen… We’ll regroup, recover, and move forward in two days, Francesco Tabellini told EuroLeague TV.
