Stéphane Gombauld returns for three years
It’s now official: Stéphane Gombauld is back at SLUC Nancy Basket. Two years after leaving for Italy, the Guadeloupean center commits for three seasons with the Lorraine club. This is significant news both athletically and symbolically, given how much of an impact the player made during his first stint.
After an exceptional 2021-2022 season with Nancy (Pro B MVP, promotion to Betclic ELITE), followed by a strong showing in the elite division (13.6 points, 6.5 rebounds and 1.5 assists for a 16.4 evaluation), he tried his luck abroad. He played for Sassari, then Reggio Emilia, also competing in the BCL.
A return anticipated by the club and its fans
SLUC was quick to share its joy in welcoming back one of its former pillars. « Stéphane is a talented, hardworking player who already knows the organization and shares our values, » declared coach Sylvain Lautié. « His commitment on the court, his experience over the last two seasons in Italy and European Cup have allowed him to develop in toughness and physically. »
For executive director Laurent Eisenbach, Gombauld’s return is even symbolic: « Full of sporting and human qualities, Stéphane is a silent leader, always exemplary, and a tireless worker. »
The project builds around its former players
After the return of Enzo Goudou-Sinha, SLUC Nancy is again betting on a well-known and appreciated face at Gentilly. Stéphane Gombauld is a player capable of imposing himself in the paint as well as stepping out to score, strengthened by his experience in France and Europe.
« Welcome home Stéphane! » concludes the club’s statement. A phrase that well summarizes the enthusiasm around this return, which could serve as a catalyst for the 2025-2026 season.
