In a clash between the NBA‘s two worst teams, the Sacramento Kings pulled off a remarkable comeback victory, erasing a 20-point deficit to defeat the Indiana Pacers 114-109 at Golden 1 Center on Tuesday night. The win was powered by rookie guard Devin Carter‘s explosive performance, as he scored all 24 of his career-high points in the second half.
The Pacers entered the fourth quarter with a 10-point advantage, having led by as many as 20 points during the contest. However, Carter took control in the final frame, scoring 22 of his 24 points in the fourth quarter alone, including 13 straight points down the stretch. The rookie guard was nearly perfect, shooting 9 of 13 from the field and 3 for 4 from 3-point range.
Pacers’ Collapse Continues Troubling Trend
Sacramento took their first lead since the opening quarter on Carter‘s 3-pointer with 4:16 remaining in regulation, capping off a stunning turnaround. The Kings shot 46% from the field and 35% from deep, while the Pacers managed just 41% and 30% respectively. The second-half collapse was particularly damaging for Indiana, as they were outscored 72-50 after intermission.
Maxime Raynaud provided crucial support with an 18-point, 11-rebound double-double – his 15th of the season for the 2.18m rookie. His and-1 jumper with 16 seconds remaining sealed the victory for Sacramento. Russell Westbrook contributed 16 points, nine assists, and seven rebounds, while DeMar DeRozan and Nique Clifford each added 12 points.
For Indiana, Aaron Nesmith led all scorers with 29 points, including 24 in the first half alone. Obi Toppin scored 17 points and grabbed five rebounds, while Kam Jones contributed 14 points and nine assists. However, the Pacers were missing key contributors Pascal Siakam (right knee sprain) and Andrew Nembhard (back and neck soreness), their first and third-leading scorers respectively.
The loss extended Indiana‘s NBA-long losing streak to 10 games and dropped them to 15-50, giving them the worst record in the league. With 17 games remaining and sitting 17.5 games back of the final play-in position, the Pacers are now mathematically eliminated from playoff contention. Sacramento improved to 16-50 but remains in last place in the Western Conference. The Pacers will host Phoenix on Thursday night, while the Kings welcome Charlotte on Wednesday.
