Milan already parts ways with its NBA champion

The European adventure of Vlatko Čančar at Olimpia Milan comes to a premature end. The Lombard club officially announced the contract termination of the Slovenian forward, who arrived this summer after six seasons in the NBA with the Denver Nuggets.

Knee injury ends Milan experience
2023 NBA champion with Denver, Čančar had joined the Italian club with ambitions to establish himself in EuroLeague. Unfortunately, a knee injury quickly sidelined him after only two appearances in the first and second rounds of the European competition.
« Olimpia Milano and Vlatko Čančar have mutually agreed to terminate his current contract, » states the club’s official release. The 28-year-old forward only recorded 15 minutes of playing time in EuroLeague, without scoring any points.
The Lombard club praised the exemplary attitude of their now former player. « Olimpia wishes to thank Čančar for his exemplary behavior, professionalism and commitment during these weeks together, hoping to see him back on the court as soon as possible, fully recovered, » the Milan management specifies.
This amicable separation allows both parties to move forward quickly. For Olimpia Milan, it’s now about finding a replacement capable of providing the desired roster depth, while Čančar must first focus on his physical recovery before considering a return to competition.
The former Nuggets player, who left the NBA after a six-season career highlighted by the 2023 title, will have to wait before returning to European courts and proving his worth away from the United States.
Nate Sestina arrives
Olimpia Milan (2 wins and 3 losses in EuroLeague) has already adjusted its roster. They simultaneously announce the signing of Nathan Sestina (2.05 m, 28 years old), from Valencia Basket.
The former Fenerbahçe player said « excited to join a historic club, rich in traditions and victories. » The American power forward notably won the Turkish championship in 2023 and the Spanish Super Cup this year with Valencia. With this arrival, Milan hopes to find consistency in the interior, an area where the team had been struggling since the start of the season.
