Mikael Jantunen made his EuroLeague debut this season with Paris Basketball. A quiet but effective pillar of the Parisian team, the Finnish international is now reportedly targeted by a European powerhouse: Virtus Bologna. This was revealed by specialized website Eurodevotion, which indicates that negotiations are well advanced.

An attractive profile for Virtus Bologna

After Virtus Bologna officially extended coach Dusko Ivanovic’s contract, the Italian club is already actively preparing its roster for the 2025-2026 season. In this context, two names have emerged from initial recruitment prospects, including Mikael Jantunen. According to Eurodevotion, multiple sources confirm that discussions are well underway between both parties, although nothing has been signed yet.

Jantunen, the Scandinavian reliability

Since joining Paris in 2023, Jantunen has become an important player in both Tuomas Iisalo’s and Tiago Splitter’s rotations. This season, he’s averaging 7.5 points and 4.7 rebounds for a 9.2 PIR in 25 minutes per game in EuroLeague, with impressive shooting efficiency (62.5% on 2-pointers, 37.3% on 3-pointers, 82.4% from the free-throw line). Having played in all 32 EuroLeague games for his team, he stands out for his consistency and versatility.

After winning the EuroCup in 2023 with Paris Basketball, he posted similar statistics: 7.9 points and 4 rebounds for an 11.1 PIR in 21 minutes. Just weeks away from turning 25 (on April 20), the Helsinki native could take another step forward in his career by joining a European basketball institution.
