Luka Doncic scores 60 points: Lakers claim eighth consecutive victory against the Heat

Luka Doncic delivered an exceptional offensive recital Thursday night in Miami, scoring 60 points in the Los Angeles Lakers’ victory over the Heat (134-126). This phenomenal performance allows the Californians to secure their eighth consecutive win and consolidate their third place in the West with a record of 45 wins and 25 losses.
The Slovenian guard was simply irresistible, finishing 18/30 from the field including 9/17 from 3-point range and 15/19 from the free-throw line. He added 7 rebounds, 3 assists and 5 steals in 37 minutes of play. This performance equals his second-best career total, behind his 73 points against Atlanta in 2024.
A spectacular comeback despite fatigue
Conditions were far from ideal for the Lakers, who were playing their second consecutive game after playing in Houston the night before. The team didn’t arrive at the hotel until 5:10 AM, and it showed early in the game with a 15-point deficit against the Heat.
But Doncic took matters into his own hands after halftime, scoring 39 of his 60 points in the second half, including 20 in the fourth quarter alone. « It was a superhero performance, » said coach JJ Redick after the game. The Miami crowd even chanted « MVP » to salute the Slovenian’s performance, who currently leads the NBA in scoring.
LeBron James makes history
This exceptional evening was also marked by a historic achievement from LeBron James. The King played his 1,611th regular season game, tying the NBA record held by Robert Parish. To celebrate this event, James posted a triple-double with 19 points, 15 rebounds and 10 assists.
« He’s not only battling the entire league but also battling time, » commented Erik Spoelstra, the Heat’s coach. « And he’s giving time a hard time. » James didn’t miss a shot until the start of the fourth quarter, making 21 of his last 22 attempts over his recent games.
This performance by Doncic, which breaks the record for the most points scored by an opponent against the Heat, strengthens his candidacy for the 2026 MVP. With this eight-game winning streak, the Lakers are peaking at the right time before the playoffs, carried by Doncic who is averaging 40.9 points over his last eight games.
