The LNB SuperCup begins this Saturday at Roland-Garros. A new competition bringing together four clubs with distinct profiles: reigning French champion Paris Basketball, finalist Monaco, Leaders Cup winner Le Mans and ELITE 2 champion Boulazac. For the National Basketball League (LNB), it’s a way to establish a « season launch event » in an iconic venue, three years after Victor Wembanyama’s last game in France, which was also played on the same Philippe-Chatrier court.

Saturday features two matchups. At 4 PM, Monaco, defeated in the Betclic ELITE final but strengthened this summer by Nikola Mirotic and Kevarius Hayes, faces newly-promoted Boulazac. Then at 7 PM, Paris meets Le Mans in a rematch of the last French Cup final won by Paris.
Players and coaches highlighted the privilege of starting the season in such a setting. « Roland-Garros is one of the most famous events in the world. Even Americans are intrigued by the idea of playing here, » said Le Mans coach Guillaume Vizade. Monaco star Nikola Mirotic adds: « I never imagined playing a basketball game at Roland-Garros. It’s a huge privilege, » he tells L’Équipe.
For the LNB, the goal is clear: gain exposure. « We consider ourselves in the entertainment industry, » explains LNB President Philippe Ausseur in Ouest-France. « Roland-Garros reflects our positioning: French basketball is artistic, beautiful to watch, chic in the French way. » With 70% of Saturday’s tickets already sold, the gamble seems to be paying off.
