Le Mans Sarthe Basket struck hard this Monday, May 12, 2025, by defeating Lyon Villeurbanne (97-80) at Antares during Round 29 of Betclic ELITE. This victory ends ASVEL’s nine-game winning streak and allows MSB to maintain their strong momentum before the playoffs. This defeat could prove costly for the team from Lyon, as Paris Basketball now has their destiny in their own hands to secure first place in the regular season.

Le Mans breaks Lyon’s momentum

Already assured of sixth place before facing ASVEL, Le Mans still approached the game with intensity and focus. After a slow start (0-6), the team from Sarthe quickly turned things around by leveraging their rebounding aggression and outside shooting from Tray Buchanan, who had a perfect first quarter from behind the arc (12 points on 4/4 shooting).

With 16 offensive rebounds in total, Guillaume Vizade’s team dominated the paint and took control of the game thanks to a 13-0 run in the second quarter. Despite Lyon’s comeback attempt, particularly by drawing fouls (26/30 from the line), Le Mans never wavered.

A perfect evening for MSB before playoffs

After halftime, Wilfried Yeguete and Léopold Delaunay continued the work with 11 straight points, extending the lead to 22 points after a basket from young Loïs Grasshoff, who shot perfectly in this game (4/4).

Tray Buchanan (27 points) sealed the deal with an and-one in the final minute, while Wes Dreamer, who joined as an injury replacement, showed promise in his commitment despite inconsistent shooting (5 points but 7 rebounds).

MSB thus records their fourth straight win in the championship and sixth consecutive home victory. The Sarthe team will finish their regular season Saturday at La Rochelle, who are already relegated, before learning their first-round playoff opponent.

For ASVEL, this defeat could be decisive: if Paris Basketball wins against Dijon this Tuesday and Monaco loses at La Rochelle, the Parisians would secure first place in the standings and home-court advantage throughout the playoffs.
