Sidelined for the entire 2025-2026 season after tearing his ACL, Kyrie Irving remains highly coveted on the NBA market. According to ESPN, several contending teams are monitoring his situation and could make their move during the offseason.
But in Dallas, team executives don’t appear to be considering a trade. The Mavericks expect to receive calls about their point guard, but have no intention of opening the door to a deal. The franchise still views Irving as « a key part of the project. »
In his first public remarks since arriving in Texas, Masai Ujiri explained that Dallas needed « a blank slate to move forward. » The executive, who was the architect behind the Raptors’ 2019 championship, made it clear he is eager to see Kyrie Irving play alongside Cooper Flagg.
« I’m really curious to see Kyrie with Cooper Flagg, » he told Yahoo Sports. A statement that reflects the Mavericks’ intention to rebuild around a new core featuring the young American phenom and the veteran point guard.

This stance may come as a surprise given that Irving has not played since his knee injury. But the Texas franchise remains convinced that his experience and offensive creativity can help guide the Rookie of the Year’s development in the years ahead.
Last season is one Dallas wants to put firmly in the rearview mirror. The team finished with a 26-56 record after a year marked by injuries and internal upheaval.
The current climate is nonetheless fueling rumors. Jason Kidd stepped down from his position this week, just months after the dismissal of general manager Nico Harrison. This latest reshuffling has prompted several franchises to keep a close eye on the situation.
According to Bleacher Report, some teams believe Dallas could be tempted to further reshape its roster if a significant offer came along. Others believe Ujiri would prefer to stabilize the project after an especially turbulent period.

The former Raptors executive also called for patience in his first public statements. « We need to find stability and build something solid, » he said.
Officially, Kyrie Irving remains a cornerstone of the Mavericks’ future. But in an NBA where front-office changes often accelerate decision-making, his name is sure to keep driving conversation throughout the summer.
