The exceptional rookie season of Kon Knueppel continues to make waves in the NBA. According to Chris Haynes, the Charlotte Hornets prodigy has agreed to participate in the 3-Point Contest during NBA All-Star Weekend 2026, adding to his already secured selection for the Rising Stars Tournament.
Impressive 3-point statistics for a rookie
At just 20 years old, Knueppel has quickly established himself as one of the league’s most formidable shooters. With 166 successful 3-pointers since the start of his inaugural season, he ranks third among all NBA players. Even more impressive, his 42.5% shooting percentage from beyond the arc is the best among the 15 players who have attempted at least 350 three-point shots this season.
Knueppel isn’t just a stationary shooter. When forced to self-create, the rookie has still been ruthlessly efficient, hitting 46.6% of his pull-up threes this season. That shot versatility fits neatly alongside LaMelo Ball’s creation and Brandon Miller’s scoring gravity.
Immediate impact on Hornets’ success
Selected fourth overall in the 2025 NBA draft, Knueppel quickly established himself as a cornerstone piece of Charlotte’s rebuild. His averages of 18.7 points, 5.5 rebounds and 3.6 assists per game, accompanied by a 48.2% field goal percentage, demonstrate his immediate impact.

His influence is directly felt in the team’s results, currently on a seven-game winning streak. This consistency earned him Eastern Conference Rookie of the Month honors in January, his third trophy of the season.
The 3-Point Contest will take place on February 14, along with the Skills Challenge and Slam Dunk Contest. Knueppel will have the opportunity to become the first Hornets player to win this competition, potentially marking another milestone in his already historic rookie season.
