The Utah Jazz will have to finish the season without their starting center Jusuf Nurkic. The 31-year-old Bosnian international will undergo nose surgery this week that will keep him off the court until the end of the 2025-2026 NBA campaign.
Jazz coach Will Hardy explained the situation before Monday’s game against the Houston Rockets. « He has a very bad deviated septum, » Hardy said. « He’s been hit in the face four or five times this year. His recent illness accelerated things. It’s something he’s had to do for a while now, so he’s going to take care of it. »

This surgical procedure had been planned for a long time, but the multiple impacts suffered during the season worsened Nurkic’s condition. The breathing problems caused by this septal deviation ultimately prompted the medical staff and the player to make this decision.
Despite his health issues, Nurkic had a convincing first season with the Utah Jazz. In 41 games played, the center averaged 10.9 points and 10.4 rebounds per game, confirming his status as a reliable and productive interior player.
Will Hardy praised his player’s contribution: « Nurk has been a big part of what we’ve done this year, and he helps our team in many ways. » This recognition underscores the Bosnian’s importance in the Jazz’s system, particularly on the boards and in protecting the paint.
Nurkic’s absence represents a tough blow for Utah, which will have to readjust its interior rotation for the final weeks of the regular season. The player, who will become a free agent at the end of the season, will have the opportunity to fully recover before approaching the next campaign in the best physical condition.
