After finishing top of Group D, thanks to their big win against Iceland (114-74) and Israel’s loss to Slovenia (106-96), Frédéric Fauthoux’s French team now looks ahead to the knockout stages. First up: Georgia, 4th in Group C, who pulled off an upset by finishing ahead of Spain, the defending European champions.
The French team starts as favorites but must be wary of a Georgian team led by Sandro Mamukelashvili and Goga Bitadze along with Tornike Shengelia and naturalized player Kamar Baldwin, who are capable of spectacular performances. The Caucasian team remains unpredictable and dreams of another upset.
For their part, France can rely on their rediscovered team chemistry and resurgent frontcourt. If they qualify, Elie Okobo, Guerschon Yabusele and their teammates would face the winner of Serbia vs Finland in the quarter-finals.
