After several postponements linked to the geopolitical context and logistical difficulties in the region, EuroLeague has finally made its decision. The Round 21 regular season match between Hapoel Tel-Aviv and Paris Basketball has been officially rescheduled. And it’s coming very quickly.

Originally scheduled for January 9th, the game had been postponed to March 3rd, then delayed again due to the new war triggered by Israel against Iran. Finally, more than two months later, both teams have clarity: the match will take place this Tuesday, March 17th at 4 PM French time.

A packed day of catch-up games

This postponement is part of a series of major readjustments for EuroLeague. March 17th will be a particularly busy day for make-up games, as two other postponed encounters will be played simultaneously: Partizan vs Dubai (Round 30 match) and Olympiakos vs Fenerbahce (Round 14 match).

This match will count for Round 21, while EuroLeague is about to begin its 31st round. For Paris, the encounter fits into the calendar two days after the domestic championship match against Gravelines-Dunkerque, and two days before the EuroLeague game against Partizan Belgrade. Within five days, the Parisian team will play three matches.

It won’t be a short trip either, as they’ll need to travel to Bulgaria. Hapoel no longer plays at home, but at the Arena 8888 in Sofia, the Bulgarian capital. This away match comes right in the middle of a series of five home games, which won’t be easy to manage.

Challenging matchup ahead

Before their defeat against Olympiakos, Paris was on a very good streak of three away victories in EuroLeague. Even while losing to the Greeks, the Parisians displayed an interesting level of play, managing to execute their preferred style. Against one of the continent’s best teams (Tel-Aviv sits 5th in the standings), there will be plenty of work to do.

Especially since Hapoel Tel-Aviv boasts the 3rd best defense in EuroLeague, with one of the slowest paces in the competition. The team can also count on former Paris player Collin Malcolm to guide them on the systems and tendencies of his former squad.

EuroLeague specified that it remains in permanent contact with clubs and local authorities to monitor the evolving situation and ensure the safety of all participants.
