Disappointing, Limoges CSP parts ways with Souley Boum one year before contract end

Souley Boum (6’3″, 26 years old) will no longer wear the Limoges CSP jersey. Eight months after his arrival, and having cost the Limoges club a 70,000 euro buyout, the American scoring point guard is already leaving. The CSP announced his contract release this Tuesday, July 1st, alongside several other departing players.

An expensive arrival, inconsistent performance
Recruited mid-season 2024-2025 from the Polish league, Souley Boum had generated high hopes. Limoges CSP, then struggling, made a significant financial effort to bring him in (70,000 euros buyout), as explained by sports director Crawford Palmer: « If we agreed to pay a buyout, it’s because we were convinced he was the key piece we needed. »
However, after a promising start (21 points shooting 5/6 from three-point range against La Rochelle), the Californian player quickly disappointed. « We thought we were getting dynamite, but we got a wet firecracker, » summarized Le Populaire du Centre in an uncompromising portrait of his stint. His final statistics (10 points, 2 rebounds, and 2.5 assists in 21 Betclic ELITE games) reflect a contribution well below expectations.
An interesting career before Europe
Born in Oakland in 1999 and a graduate of Oakland Tech High School, Souley Boum distinguished himself throughout his NCAA career, first at San Francisco, then UTEP, and finally Xavier, where he shined during the 2022-2023 season (16.4 points, 4.4 rebounds, 4.3 assists). Undrafted in 2023, he tried his luck in Summer League with the Sacramento Kings before joining the G-League (Grand Rapids Gold).
Noticed after an excellent start in Poland (24.7 points, 6.6 assists in 7 games with Dabrowa Gornicza), Boum had convinced Limoges to bet on him. However, the French experience will remain a missed opportunity in his career.
CSP makes a clean sweep
Souley Boum’s departure is part of a broader adjustment at Limoges. The club has also confirmed the departure of Mohamed Diarra (moving to Cholet, this time with a 70,000 euros transfer fee recovered), Alexandre Chassang (exit clause activated), William Christmas and Josh Bannan (not renewed). A major roster cleanup that signals a busy summer in the transfer market for CSP.
