Breanna Stewart Returns to Fenerbahçe for EuroLeague Final Six Amid WNBA CBA Uncertainty

Breanna Stewart returns to Turkish powerhouse Fenerbahce
Fenerbahçe Opet have significantly bolstered their EuroLeague Women championship aspirations with the marquee signing of global superstar Breanna Stewart. The announcement comes as the 2025-2026 EuroLeague season approaches its climax, with the Final Six scheduled to tip off April 15 in Zaragoza, Spain.
Stewart’s return to the Turkish powerhouse marks a reunion with the club where she delivered their maiden EuroLeague Women title in 2023. The 31-year-old USA forward was named Final Four MVP after posting a majestic 25-point performance in a dominant 99-60 Final triumph against CBK Mersin Yenisehir Bld in Praha, leading Fenerbahçe to their first ever silverware in the competition.
A strategic move with broader implications
The timing of Stewart’s commitment carries significant weight beyond basketball. As a vice president in the Women’s National Basketball Player’s Association, her decision to play overseas through mid-April coincides with critical ongoing negotiations between the WNBA and WNBPA over a new collective bargaining agreement.
The EuroLeague Final Six concludes on April 19, the same day WNBA training camps are scheduled to open. Under the previous CBA, the prioritization rule required veterans under contract to report by training camp start or May 1, whichever came later. Missing that deadline resulted in suspension for the entire year.

Stewart’s commitment may signal skepticism about whether the WNBA season will begin on schedule, or represent pressure on the contentious prioritization rule that has frustrated several players. During NBA All-Star Weekend, commissioner Adam Silver expressed being « encouraged » by negotiation progress, telling reporters: « What I would love to do is put pressure on everyone. Often, things tend to get done at the 11th hour. We’re getting awfully close to the 11th hour when it comes to bargaining. »
Stewart brings championship pedigree to Fenerbahçe‘s title defense. She previously won EuroLeague Women MVP honors with UMMC Ekaterinburg in 2021, joining an exclusive club alongside legends Diana Taurasi and Ann Wauters as multiple-time Final Four MVP recipients. Her return creates a star-studded lineup featuring Emma Meesseman and Gabby Williams for the season showpiece, as Fenerbahçe aims to improve upon last year’s third-place finish.
