Bojan Bogdanovic officially announced his retirement Sunday via social media, ending a career spanning over two decades at the highest level. The 36-year-old Croatian forward couldn’t overcome a foot injury that has plagued him for 14 months and required two surgeries.

« Sometimes in life, you don’t choose the moment: the moment chooses for you, » Bogdanovic wrote in his farewell message. « After 14 months fighting a foot injury, two surgeries, and countless efforts to return to the court, the time has come for me to close this chapter. »

A decade of consistency in the NBA

Drafted 31st overall by the Brooklyn Nets in 2011, Bogdanovic chose to refine his game in EuroLeague before joining the NBA in 2014. His American journey took him through six franchises: Brooklyn Nets, Washington Wizards, Indiana Pacers, Utah Jazz, Detroit Pistons, and New York Knicks.

The 6’7″ forward leaves behind remarkable consistency stats: 15.6 points, 3.6 rebounds, and 1.7 assists averaged over 719 regular-season games. His percentages demonstrate his efficiency: 46% field goals, 39.4% from three-point range, and 86% free throws.

His best statistical campaign was during the 2022-2023 season with the Pistons, where he averaged 21.6 points, 3.8 rebounds, and 2.6 assists with exceptional shooting percentages (49% FG, 41% 3PT).

An impressive European and international record

Although he never reached the NBA conference finals despite strong campaigns with the Jazz, Bogdanovic distinguished himself on the European and international stage. Born in Mostar, Bosnia and Herzegovina, he won championships with Cibona Zagreb in Croatia and Fenerbahçe in Turkey.

Under Croatian colors, « Bogey » made his mark at the 2016 Olympics in Rio, where he finished as the tournament’s top scorer averaging 25.3 points. This performance remains one of the highlights of his international career, even though no medal came to crown his efforts with the national team.
