An evening of semifinals full of excitement took place at Munich’s SAP Garden, with two matches featuring very different scenarios. On one side, Bamberg created a sensation by eliminating the host club and favorite, Bayern Munich, after a spectacular overtime period, while on the other, ALBA Berlin qualified more comfortably against Oldenburg.
Bamberg pulls off upset against Bayern Munich
The biggest surprise of the evening came from Bamberg Baskets, who defeated Bayern Basketball 103-97 after overtime. An achievement all the more remarkable given that the Bavarians have the highest budget in the league (18.03 million euros) compared to just 1.46 million for Bamberg.
Cobe Williams was the architect of this historic victory with 22 points and 10 assists, his first double-double of the BBL season. The American particularly shined after the break, scoring 18 of his 22 points in the second half. Ibi Watson supported him perfectly with 24 points, including seven crucial ones in overtime.
On the Munich side, Nenad Dimitrijevic set a new personal record with 24 points, while Andreas Obst and Vladimir Lucic added 17 points each. Bayern seemed doomed, trailing by six points (83-77) with one minute left in regulation. But two consecutive 3-pointers by Dimitrijevic and Obst sent the game into overtime (83-83).
Overtime offered a true offensive festival with seven consecutive 3-pointers scored alternately by both teams, electrifying the 11,500 spectators in attendance. Bamberg ultimately held on thanks to Obst’s missed shots in the final moments, as he failed to tie the game with 21 seconds remaining.
ALBA Berlin dominates Oldenburg
In the other semifinal, ALBA Berlin left no chance for Baskets Oldenburg, winning 98-78. The Berliners took control from the start and were never threatened, already leading by eleven points after the first quarter (29-18).
Malte Delow led the Berlin offense with 21 points on 3/5 from 3-point range, demonstrating remarkable efficiency. Norris Agbakoko recorded a perfect double-double with 16 points and 10 rebounds, while Jack Kayil nearly achieved a statistical feat with 12 points and 8 assists.
For Oldenburg, former Nancy player Chris Clemons tried to keep his team afloat with 29 points, but his teammates didn’t follow. Tomislav Zubcic added 12 points but delivered no assists, illustrating his team’s offensive struggles.
The BBL Cup final will take place on Sunday, February 22, 2026 at 4:30 PM at Munich’s SAP Garden. ALBA Berlin, aiming for its twelfth title in this competition, will face Bamberg in what promises to be an exciting David versus Goliath matchup.
