[Analysis] How to become the GOAT of passing, Marcelinho Huertas
Gabriel Pantel-Jouve
Marcelinho Huertas (1.90m, 42 years old) has done it again. At 42, Tenerife’s Brazilian point guard has been named MVP of the Liga Endesa regular season. An exceptional achievement that crowns a very high-level 2024-2025 campaign. Despite tough competition, notably from Ante Tomic and Jean Montero, it was the aurinegro veteran who took the prize.
While thinking he was attending a simple interview at the Leal Theatre in La Laguna, Marcelinho Huertas was greeted by his teammates, his club, supporters and… his family for a double surprise. Coming to celebrate his 42nd birthday, the Brazilian point guard was presented with the 2024-2025 Liga Endesa MVP trophy. An emotional scene, reflecting the player’s aura.
In 32 games this season, Huertas averaged 14.3 points, 7.2 assists, 2.2 rebounds and 0.5 steals for a 16.7 performance index rating with the second-place team of the regular season (25 wins and 8 losses). He was the most voted player by Liga Endesa coaches and players, which was crucial in an extremely close election (104.6 points versus 94 for Ante Tomic).
Already respected throughout Europe for his game sense and longevity, Marcelinho Huertas adds a new chapter to his career. This MVP title, won in a league as competitive as Liga Endesa and at such an advanced age, is a tribute to his professionalism, consistency, and love for the game. He thus becomes an example for all generations of basketball players.
