11 consecutive wins before first defeat: Fauthoux doesn’t surpass De Vincenzi’s record

After taking charge of Les Bleus in 2024, Frédéric Fauthoux had enjoyed a flawless run with the French team. This Sunday, August 31, in Katowice, the French coach recorded his first defeat against Israel (82-69) during the third match of EuroBasket 2025. The streak of 11 consecutive victories has come to an end, but remains remarkable: it’s the second-best start for a French national team coach, behind Jean-Pierre De Vincenzi and his 12 inaugural successes.

Les Bleus stopped after 11 straight victories

Julien Guérineau, press officer for the French men’s team, reminded on Twitter (X) that this streak placed Frédéric Fauthoux in Les Bleus’ history books. The 11 consecutive successes obtained between 2024 and 2025 constitute the fifth-best winning streak in national team history.

While the match against Israel marked a setback, it doesn’t erase the solid start to the coach’s tenure, which included prestigious victories against Luka Doncic’s Slovenia at the Euro and against Greece and Spain during preparation for this competition.

Jean-Pierre De Vincenzi remains the reference

Still, Jean-Pierre De Vincenzi remains the benchmark. The former coach, who served from 1995 to 2000, started his tenure with a series of 12 consecutive successes, a record still unmatched. Frédéric Fauthoux came very close, confirming that Les Bleus maintained positive momentum despite the transition at the helm of the national team after Vincent Collet’s long cycle.

What’s next?

This defeat against Israel should serve as a warning for the rest of EuroBasket. Les Bleus will continue their journey on Tuesday against Poland, with the objective of bouncing back quickly to secure qualification for the round of 16.
