UConn women’s basketball defeats Marquette 71-56, ending 25-game blowout streak

UConn Huskies guard Azzi Fudd (35) brings the ball up court during the fourth quarter of the game on Saturday February 14, 2026 at the Al McGuire Center in Milwaukee, Wisconsin.
The unbeaten streak continues, but not without a fight. No. 1 UConn women’s basketball extended their perfect season to 27-0 with a 71-56 victory over Marquette on Saturday at the Al McGuire Center, though the Golden Eagles managed to end one significant Huskies streak in the process.
UConn had won 21 straight games by at least 25 points before Saturday, representing the longest such streak for any Division I program over at least the last 25 seasons. The last team to lose to UConn by fewer than 25 points was No. 7 Michigan, which fell 72-69 to the Huskies on November 21 at Uncasville, Connecticut.
Fudd dominates first half, Strong takes over after break
The victory belonged to two stars who dominated different halves. Azzi Fudd put UConn on her back early, scoring 17 of the Huskies’ 36 first-half points while shooting 5-of-8 from 3-point range. She finished with a game-high 25 points, providing the offensive spark when UConn needed it most.

Sarah Strong struggled initially, going 1-of-9 from the field for just three points in the first half. But the presumptive national player of the year candidate found her rhythm after intermission, scoring 19 of her 22 points in the second half. UConn coach Geno Auriemma said after the game that Strong was feeling « a little bit under the weather. »
Strong shot 6-of-7 during a dominant 15-point third quarter that helped UConn maintain control. When Marquette cut the deficit to eight points late in the third quarter with a 7-0 run, it was Strong who responded. UConn opened the final period with an 8-0 run that pushed the gap past 20 and effectively ended Marquette’s upset hopes.
Marquette shows fight but falls short
After falling behind 5-0 in the opening minutes, UConn responded with an 8-0 run and never trailed again. The Golden Eagles managed to tie the game 20-20 with 5:12 left in the second quarter on a three-point play from Skylar Forbes, but UConn answered with an 11-0 run to seize control.
KK Arnold added 10 points and a career-high nine assists in her return home to Wisconsin. Arnold was a three-time Associated Press Wisconsin state player of the year while starring at nearby Germantown High School. Lee Volker led Marquette with 15 points, while Forbes contributed 14 and Jaidynn Mason added 11.
The loss marked Marquette’s third straight defeat, dropping them to 16-10 overall and 10-7 in Big East play. For UConn, the victory improved their Big East record to 16-0, extending their conference winning streak to 63 straight games counting regular-season and tournament matchups. The Huskies will travel to face second-place Villanova on Wednesday, where they can clinch a share of the Big East regular season crown.
