Tony Parker and shareholders invest more to save ASVEL, while awaiting NBA Europe

After concerns about a deficit of at least 6 million euros, ASVEL men’s team will continue its journey in Betclic ELITE and EuroLeague next season. Tony Parker, initially reluctant to reinvest, finally participated in a new collective effort with other shareholders to reassure the DNCCG. This gesture was guided by hopes of a future NBA Europe league, in which he hopes to fully involve ASVEL.
En revanche la bonne nouvelle du jour pour l’ASVEL masculin est le passage plutôt positif devant la DNCCG. Les actionnaires ont décidé de remettre au pot. https://t.co/xdlP1vHXsw

An internal solution to save the situation
Under threat of administrative relegation, ASVEL finally found a solution. As Tony Parker confirmed to L’Équipe and Le Progrès, ASVEL has been validated by the National Management and Control Council (DNCCG), which was reassured by the future recapitalization by shareholders. « Everything has been settled with the DNCCG, » the club president told Le Progrès, without revealing exact figures.
This decision ends a very tense period marked by delayed player salaries – who should receive their May payments this Tuesday, June 24 – and a major budget shortfall, largely caused by non-payment from a main sponsor, Skweek. The club has initiated legal proceedings against the streaming platform, owned by FedCom, which is also a shareholder of AS Monaco.
NBA Europe as driving force
The prospect of NBA arriving in Europe weighed in the decision. Tony Parker, heavily involved in discussions between NBA, EuroLeague and FIBA, sees this project as a unique opportunity for ASVEL. « We’re all investing with NBA Europe in mind, » he told L’Équipe, adding that this perspective encouraged shareholders to favor an « internal solution » rather than selling to foreign funds.
Already active in exchanges with project stakeholders, Parker dreams of a strong partnership between EuroLeague and NBA. He is even mentioned as a potential vice-president of this hypothetical European league. Meanwhile, the former point guard remains focused on growing the Villeurbanne club’s value.
ASVEL Women: another battle to fight
While the men’s section has now pushed back danger, ASVEL women’s team faces a more complex situation. Relegated to regional league in first instance by the FFBB management commission, the women’s section has appealed this decision.
Tony Parker, although less directly involved, expressed his support: « The women are as important to me as the men. We will find solutions, » he assured L’Équipe.
