Six weeks before media day and training camp, the San Antonio Spurs have officially announced the composition of Mitch Johnson’s technical staff, Gregg Popovich’s successor. A renewed staff around Mitch Johnson
The Spurs are entering a new era with several notable changes in their technical staff. Sean Sweeney, from the Dallas Mavericks, will serve as Mitch Johnson’s right-hand man. The franchise also announced the arrival of Corliss Williamson along with the promotions of Tim Martin and Scott King.
Tim Martin, an individual training specialist for the past fifteen years, officially joins the staff after having already worked with Victor Wembanyama. Scott King, recently named Coach Of The Year in G-League with the Austin Spurs, moves up a level after proving himself in the development division.
Rashard Lewis, NBA experience serving the youth
Rashard Lewis will be responsible for developing young talents. He will also handle individual training, according to sources close to the situation. A former NBA player, he brings extensive experience with 16 professional seasons. His statistics speak for themselves: 14.9 points, 5.2 rebounds, and 1.7 assists per game. He also shot 39% from three-point range.
NBA champion in 2013 with the Miami Heat, Lewis played for several iconic franchises including the Seattle Supersonics, Orlando Magic, and Washington Wizards. His only previous coaching experience dates back to 2023 in Detroit alongside Dwane Casey.
Other technical staff appointments include Jimmy Baron, Josh Brannon, Andrew Weatherman, and Madison Clower, thus completing the coaching team that will accompany the Spurs in this new post-Popovich era.
