The EuroLeague could soon have its own All-Star Game. The idea, revealed by insider Andrea Calzoni, a specialist of the European Top 20, made waves this Tuesday on X. According to him, during the next gathering organized by EuroLeague with licensed teams, the possibility of creating an event similar to what exists in the NBA or in France at the end of the calendar year will be debated.

EuroLeague is therefore considering creating a premium event, modeled after the NBA All-Star Game, with an all-star match and potentially individual contests. While no concrete details have emerged at this stage, the idea of a festive weekend dedicated to the competition’s stars seems to be on the table.

Scheduling challenges amid packed calendar

In a context where the competition expanded to 20 teams this season, and where the calendar is already extremely dense between domestic championships, national cups and EuroLeague, feasibility raises questions. Many followers already point to an overloaded schedule and the risk of additional fatigue for players who are already heavily solicited.

Among the reactions, one well-known voice stood out: that of Mike James. In the midst of a turbulent period with AS Monaco, EuroLeague‘s all-time leading scorer seemed to welcome the idea favorably. On X, he wrote: « I need to play long enough to have a legacy vote. »

A message with double meaning: a nod to his longevity and historical status in the competition, but also implicit validation of a project that would put even more spotlight on the major figures of European basketball.

Format possibilities and implementation questions

It remains to be seen in what form a EuroLeague All-Star Game could come to life. A Europe versus World duel? West versus East? Fan voting like in the NBA? And above all, would there be dunk and 3-points contests to energize the weekend?

EuroLeague has already modernized its image in recent years. Such an event could strengthen its media and commercial attractiveness, provided it finds the right window in an already saturated calendar. All these questions could find answers by the end of the season.
