Baskonia took an important step toward the Copa del Rey by winning a tight game against Río Breogán (100-103). French forward Timothé Luwawu-Cabarrot was the architect of this crucial victory with 24 points and, most importantly, a spectacular 3-pointer with 26 seconds remaining when the score was tied at 96-96.

A balanced game until the end
Without Tadas Sedekerskis, Markquis Nowell and Mamadi Diakite, Baskonia still had a rough start to the game. Río Breogán took the lead from the first quarter, going up 17-9 then 25-16 thanks notably to the shooting of Francis Alonso and Arturs Kurucs (who was facing his brother).
The reaction from Clément Frisch & co came at the start of the second period with a 16-4 run that allowed Paolo Galbiati’s team to regain the advantage. Markus Howard, returning after missing the previous game due to illness, and Rodions Kurucs were the main catalysts of this comeback, allowing Baskonia to take the lead at halftime (48-50).
Luwawu-Cabarrot clutch in money time
The second half was a true offensive showcase on both sides, with constant exchanges of baskets and neither team able to pull away decisively. The suspense remained until the final seconds, with multiple lead changes on the scoreboard.
It was ultimately Luwawu-Cabarrot who made the difference with a crucial 3-pointer off an offensive rebound by Rodions Kurucs, despite the presence of two defenders. This decisive play allowed Baskonia to maintain their lead until the final buzzer and secure a valuable victory.
With this win, Baskonia now holds a record of 7 wins and 5 losses in Liga Endesa, moving closer to qualification for the Copa del Rey. The team will return to EuroLeague action this Friday, January 2nd, hosting Fenerbahçe, before welcoming Andorra in the Spanish championship.
