From Strasbourg to Chapel Hill, a unique journey
Born in Mojkovac, Montenegro, Luka Bogavac grew up in a basketball-oriented environment. His father, Nebojsa Bogavac, former assistant at SIG Strasbourg, is now head coach of Alliance Sport Alsace in Pro B. Luka developed his skills in Strasbourg, earning locally trained player (JFL) status thanks to his four years licensed in France.
After leaving in 2021 to join KK Mega Basket’s program, a partner structure of his agency BeoBasket, Bogavac progressed through the ranks in the Balkans. Following a stint in Podgorica in 2022-23, he broke out this season with SC Derby, becoming one of ABA Liga’s top scorers with 14.9 points per game at 40% from three-point range, along with 3.6 rebounds and 2.3 assists in 29 games.
Already a 2024 NBA Draft candidate before withdrawing his name, the Montenegrin shooting guard has chosen to join NCAA and the University of North Carolina, a powerhouse of American college basketball, where he will bring his outside shooting and European high-level experience to Hubert Davis’s roster.
