Kevin Durant has no plans to hang up his sneakers anytime soon. The 36-year-old American forward confirmed his intention to participate in the 2028 Los Angeles Olympics during an event organized Tuesday by his company Boardroom.

A historic record to defend

Durant already made Olympic basketball history at the Paris 2024 Games, becoming the first male player to win four Olympic gold medals. His golden collection includes victories in Tokyo 2021, Rio de Janeiro 2016, and London 2012, along with his 2010 World Cup title.

When asked about his potential participation in the 2028 Games as the host country, Durant responded with his usual frankness: « If I’m still myself, I don’t want to be the veteran who comes to ‘sit on the bench to get his fifth’. »

An extending NBA career

Durant’s Olympic perspective fits into an NBA career that seems far from over. The two-time NBA champion and Finals MVP with the Golden State Warriors (2017, 2018) is currently starting his 19th season in the league. Under contract until the end of the 2025-2026 season, he is expected to sign an extension that would keep him beyond this deadline.

Beyond his playing ambitions, Durant also discusses a possible future as a coach. « Some days I would do it, some days not, » he shared when asked about potentially switching to coaching after his playing career.

With two MVP titles in FIBA competitions (2010 and 2021), Durant remains one of Team USA’s pillars. His quest for a fifth Olympic gold medal could well motivate the future Hall of Famer to maintain his level of excellence until 2028.
