Julius Randle has found his new home in Minnesota. According to ESPN, the All-Star power forward intends to sign a new three-year, $100 million contract with the Minnesota Timberwolves. The deal includes a player option for the 2027-2028 season, providing additional flexibility for the 30-year-old player.

This extension marks a significant turning point for a player who was initially considered a temporary piece when he arrived in Minneapolis. Traded from the New York Knicks last October as part of the Karl-Anthony Towns deal, Randle quickly adapted to his new environment.

Successful adaptation after a rough start

However, Randle’s first season in Minnesota wasn’t smooth sailing. After a difficult start, the former Lakers player truly found his rhythm after returning from injury on March 2. Over the last two months of the regular season, he posted impressive averages of 18.2 points, 6.8 rebounds, and 5.2 assists, shooting 52.3% from the field and 39.8% from three-point range.

This momentum continued into the playoffs, where Randle set personal postseason records. Averaging 21.7 points per game in the playoffs, he played a crucial role in the Timberwolves’ run to the Western Conference Finals. His maturity and efficiency under pressure likely convinced Minnesota’s management to invest in him long-term.

A roster taking shape around Anthony Edwards

This extension is part of a broader strategy by the Timberwolves, who also secured Naz Reid with a five-year, $125 million contract. The organization is building a solid core around Anthony Edwards, allowing Randle to no longer carry the offensive burden alone as he sometimes did in New York.

With regular season averages of 18.7 points, 7.1 rebounds, and 4.7 assists on 48.5% shooting, Randle has proven he can thrive in a complementary role. His partnership with Rudy Gobert in the paint and Anthony Edwards’ offensive presence create a promising tactical balance for the Timberwolves’ championship aspirations.
