A journey between France, Florida and Monaco
Born in Paris and trained at Caen Basket Calvados, Clarence Massamba flew to the United States at a young age to continue his high school education. For two seasons, he played for The Rock School in Gainesville, Florida, leading his team to the SIAA title and standing out in several prestigious tournaments like the Chick-Fil-A Classic (averaging 19 points).
In summer 2024, he returned to France to join AS Monaco. With the U21 team, he posted impressive stats for the league’s second-placed team: 11.4 points with 46.2% shooting (including 32.5% from 3-point on 4 attempts per game), 3 rebounds, 1.4 assists and 1.4 steals in 24 minutes, over 22 games (15 starts). He scored over 20 points four times, including a peak of 25 points against Elan Chalon. He also had the opportunity to taste high-level competition with three appearances in Betclic ELITE.
Tennessee attracted by his complete profile
Rated three stars by ESPN, Massamba received interest from several major universities (Duke, Kansas, Ohio State…). But it was Tennessee and Rick Barnes who managed to convince the Frenchman. « Clarence is a long, athletic and versatile guard, capable of attacking in transition and excelling with or without the ball, » said the Volunteers’ coach in the official announcement. « He has great court vision, very high basketball IQ and plays with real intensity. Our fans will love his style. »
With this signing, Tennessee confirms its attraction to European talent and adds another Frenchman to its history, after Yves Pons between 2017 and 2021, and Quentin Diboundje (1.94m, 22 years old). Massamba joins an ambitious 2025 recruiting class, alongside Nate Ament and DeWayne Brown II.
